Alguns alimentos serão fruto da nossa horta.  Aqui plantamos um bocadinho de tudo, desde tomate, alface, nabos, couve-galega, nabiças, feijão, batata, ervas aromáticas, chás, entre outros.

History and Tribute

120 year-old Solar Egas Moniz “Charming House & Local Experiences” presents traditional architectonic characteristics of a home of aristocratic owners from the time. It is situated near the famous shelter home for unprivileged children “Casa do Gaiato” and the Monastery “Mosteiro do Salvador do Paço de Sousa”. This monastery plays an essential role in the Solar Egas Moniz strategic presentation since the building, sponsored by Egas Moniz tutor, the first King of Portugal (D. Afonso Henriques), and which is only 100 meters away from the Mansion is an ex-libris of the “Rota do Românico”: (Romanesque Route). Thus, the House was given his name as a tribute to him.

Portuguese history is also present in the geographic area of the House namely in the trail and discovery of “Rota do Românico” (Romanesque Route). It is the starting point for a journey plenty of culture and patrimony.

Bearing in mind the historical deeds of Egas Moniz, the first king of Portugal D. Afonso Henriques’s tutor, the concept of “word” takes essential importance. Egas Moniz gave King D. Afonso VII “his word” that Afonso Henriques would be his vassal, thus avoiding the continuation of the siege of the city of Guimarães. Nevertheless as he could not keep his “word” he placed himself and his family in the hands of the emperor of Hispania, who, impressed with such an honor, spared their lives. This episode of Egas Moniz, shows his honor, loyalty, and humility but also his courage, wisdom and altruism.

The virtues of Egas Moniz are the motto to the denomination of the rooms of the Historic wing. This is the rebuilt area of the House which recalls the origins of the history of Portugal of great and renown recognition worldwide. Luis Vaz de Camões in his masterpiece “Os Lusíadas”, renown worldwide, portrays this episode of Egas Moniz , thus, eternalizing this act of great “courage, loyalty and altruism”.
